Academy v. Portcullis - Saturday, 10 May, 2014

Toss was won by Portcullis, who chose to field.

Academy : 214 for 8 (30).

Portcullis : 111 all out (13).

Portcullis taught lesson by the Academy despite Mitchell fifty.

Week three of the 2014 Grades season saw Portcullis away to Academy. With Duthie Park being out of action, Academy’s Home fixture had to be moved to Sheddocksley 2.

Perhaps the mix-up in the venue was to do for Academy as they did not turn up for the toss of the coin till 1.20pm. Portcullis Captain Dave Mitchell rightly claiming the toss and putting Academy in to bat first. Five minutes late is one thing, twenty minutes quite another.

Batting first did not seem to perturb Academy. In fact quite the opposite was to apply. Portcullis, showing that they had yet to find the antidote to the previous week’s fielding ineptness, encouraged Academy to attack them and they did just that. Skipper Dave Mitchell offered temporary respite by taking the wicket of Abhinav for 16 in his sixth over. Academy 70-1.

This meant that Adnan came to join Uday at the wicket. This also meant that further carnage ensued as Portcullis still struggled to shake off their early season apathy. The pair both went onto half centuries – Uday 65 and Adnan 75 as the second wicket partnership was worth 89 runs.

After 32 overs Academy 159-2.

At this point Skipper Dave Mitchell decided to gather his team together for some hard passionate words, not for the faint- hearted.

The result was instantaneous. Portcullis reined back their opponents to 214 – 8 from 45 overs. Bilal Farooq being the chief destroyer, finishing with 4-50. Five catches were gathered by the Portcullis fielders. For Academy Safeer finished 20 not out and Sydney 11 not out to back up Uday and Adnan’s initial forays.

In reply Portcullis were always struggling to keep up with the run-rate. Valiant knocks of 51 from Skipper Dave Mitchell and 35 from Abdullah Khan were not enough to keep their opponents at bay and Academy ran out winners by the glamorous score of 103 runs.

PORTCULLIS MAN OF THE MATCH.

Dave Mitchell – 51 runs, 1 wicket and 2 catches takes it for him despite Bilal Farooq’s 4-50,.

PORTCULLIS MOMENT OF THE MATCH.
