First Round Exit from Cup

Bogbeth Park lived up to its name today as Portcullis's flying early season form came unstuck amongst the mud and long grass of Kemnay's home ground.

Hopes were high coming into the game after the previous days victory and when Captain Nair won the toss and elected to bat PCC were looking to set a good target.

Alas this was not the same Kemnay team who were disposed of back in April fielding only four of the same team. The bowling was reinforced with openers Thom and Nixon working up good pace and proving hard to get away. PCC openers Alex and Ronnie battled away and kept them out initially but the run rate never really got going as the ball disappeared into the lush green forests masquerading as the outfield.

When the first change bowlers got rid of Bryce and Falconer in quick sucession it became a bit of a procession with ony Kris resisting and eventually top scoring with 25. We were able to bat out the 40 overs but a target of 90 was never going to be enough.

There was some early consolation with both openers being picked up by Kris relativly quickly but with a low required rate the runs were picked off with overs to spare. As if that wasn't enough injuries to Kris and Davie capped off a fairly miserable day.

All in all though I think we will look back on this as the day when our grade promotion campaign really took off as the other teams take their eyes of the ball in pursuit of a fairly beat up old tin.....

PS. As Kris was injured towards the end of the game the captaincy was turned over to Bob. As a result Kris maintains his unbeaten record whilst Bob has a 100% failure rate as skipper.
