Good coin tossing and a brave decision by skipper Alan Dobey got Portcullis off to the perfect start to the season with a 9 wicket win over 2nd Dunecht last Saturday. After winning the toss, Alan chose to put Dunecht in to bat even though 4 of the Portcullis teamĀ  were stillĀ  in a car travelling to the ground. Despite taking the field with just 8 players (reserve Coxie standing in as a substitute fielder), Portcullis managed to limit Dunecht scoring opportunites with some tight bowling by Alan and Sony until the cavalry arrived.

Rahul and Chetan still had to wait 30 minutes after arriving before they were allowed to bowl, but when they were finally unleashed on Dunecht they took seven wickets between them to leave Portcullis a target of just 51.

Seasoned Portcullis watchers will know that such a low target could easily have proved too much, but in this instance it was not poor batting but the weather that promised to rob Portcullis of the win. Openers Rahul and Chetan were scoring quickly as the rain fell, and Dunecht sportingly stayed on the pitch long enough for them to finish the job.
