Queens Cross Kept at Bay

A terrific performance from the team allowed us to hold Queens Cross to a draw today.

Richard asked Alan to captain as it was probable he would have to leave early. Alan won the toss and asked QX to bat.  The weather held off and QX batted for their alloted 45 overs making a score of 169 for 5.

Some excellent batting from Portcullis followed using up the remaining 45 overs, not able to reach the target but enough to take what turned out to be a rather easy draw and deny Queens Cross the chance togo ahead of us in the grade.

It is likely that had Queens Cross won the toss and put us into bat they would have probably taken the game without too much difficulty.  Regardless they should really have won but for some pretty poor bowling at the end (wides which umpire Kris wisely did not punish) allowed us to hold steady and take our share of the points.

Man of the match has to go to Tom Lewis for a tidy bowling spell but more so for a very long and patient batting performance which influenced the rest of the team to also bat patiently and use up all of the overs.  A great job behind the stumps by Coxie along with an excellent display of batting with some good controlled allowed him to stay for a long supporting spell to make 37 runs. Once Coxie was out it was decided to hold out for the draw as we had too few wickets remaining exposing us to the risk of losing the game.
